Usefulness of Superovulation and Intrauterine Insemination in Surgically Corrected Endometriosis

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of superovulation with clomiphene only or combined with human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) on pregnancy rate of surgically corrected endometriosis.
The study was performed to the 52 patients who had visited to Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Chonnam University Hospital under the diagnosis of endometriosis and who had received laparoscopic or laparotomic surgery for endometriosis.
All of
them didn't have any other infertility factor than endometriosis. 14 of 52 patients were treated by superovulation with clomiphene and IUI, and 22 of 52 patients were treated by superovuation with clomiphene-HMG combined therapy and IUI. Their
pregnancy
rates were compared to control patients (16 of 52 patients) who did not received any superovulation or IUI.
3 of 14 (21.4%) patients were conceived who received clomiphene superovulation and IUI, but this pregnancy rate was not statistically higher than 2 of 16 (12.5%) control patients. However 9 of 22 (40.9%) patients were conceived who received
clomiphene-HMG superovuation and IUI, so this pregnancy rate was statistically higher than control (p<0.05).
Therefore clomiphene-HMG superovulation and IUI were thought as suggestible treatment method to increase the pregnancy rate of endometriosis patients after surgical correction.
